Another Great Week Of Tree Surgery Training At Ground Up Training
It’s been another excellent week here at Ground Up Training in Epping, Essex. We’ve been running a full schedule of tree surgery courses. The week was packed with hands-on learning, teamwork, and professional development, and we’re proud to say that every candidate passed their assessments. We are so passionate about helping individuals develop their career as tree surgeons. It is always such a joy to teach you guys how to undertake various assessments to become an arborist.

Our Week Of Chainsaw Courses & Tree Climbing Courses

Each course had four dedicated candidates, and it was great to see such enthusiasm and focus from everyone involved. The site atmosphere was positive, and the teamwork between trainees made for an enjoyable and productive week.
Training with Courant Equipment
Once again our climbing courses made excellent use of equipment supplied by Courant, giving candidates the opportunity to try out a range of professional climbing ropes, harnesses, and hardware. Using different setups during training helps arborists understand the performance and feel of modern equipment before choosing what suits their own climbing style best.
CS30 – Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-Cutting
Our CS30 Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-Cutting course provides essential training for anyone starting a career in arboriculture or forestry, both industries require formal chainsaw training, which usually starts with the CS30. This course covers the safe maintenance, operation, and handling of a chainsaw for ground-based work. You’ll learn how to check, sharpen, and maintain your chainsaw, as well as how to cross-cut timber safely and efficiently. Practical sessions take place in our fully equipped facilities, under expert supervision, ensuring you gain the confidence and competence required to meet industry standards. This course is ideal for those seeking professional chainsaw training in Essex and is a fundamental starting point for all further tree surgery qualifications.
CS31 – Felling Trees up to 380mm
Building on the foundations of CS30, our CS31 Felling Trees up to 380mm course is designed for individuals who need to safely fell trees upto 380mm in diameter. You’ll learn essential felling techniques, including assessment of tree lean, directional felling, snedding, and basic tree processing. The course also covers risk assessment, and safety checks before, during, and after felling. Delivered by our experienced instructors in our beautiful woodland, this qualification is perfect for those progressing in tree surgery training or working in forestry and estate management across Epping and the wider Essex area.
CS38 – Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue
Our CS38 Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue course provides the knowledge and practical skills to safely climb trees using ropes and harnesses, as well as perform aerial rescues. Trainees will learn how to inspect climbing equipment, perform basic knots and anchors, and use rope techniques to navigate the tree canopy safely. A key focus is on emergency procedures and rescuing a climber in distress, a vital skill for any professional arborist. Whether you’re beginning your career or looking to expand your capabilities, this course is a must for anyone pursuing tree surgery training in Essex and is a stepping stone to more advanced aerial chainsaw qualifications.
CS39 – Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness
The CS39 Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness course builds upon the climbing skills developed in CS38 and introduces the use of a chainsaw while working at height. You’ll learn how to operate a top-handled chainsaw safely and efficiently to remove branches and perform light pruning tasks while positioned in the tree. The course covers key safety practices, cutting techniques, and handling procedures specific to aerial work. On successful completion, candidates will be equipped to carry out advanced arborist operations as part of a professional tree surgery team. For those seeking chainsaw training in Essex, CS39 is an essential qualification that opens the door to more complex and higher-level tree work.
